Alicia Marshall is a professional Interior designer who is the owner and principal designer of Winding Road Design Studio, in the North East Alpine town of Bright, Victoria. Departing the Melbourne CBD for the picturesque mountains 10 years ago, she saw a positive change spark a new business idea. An enduring passion for illustration, etching and design, set in a quiet country environment prompted Alicia to develop a range of designs on paper and sell them at local markets. Eventually outgrowing a 3m x 3m stall and with a ‘sink or swim’ attitude, the studio moved into a new shop front in the main street of the small tourist town. Here the physical space enabled an expanded range, which is now adapted to larger scale two dimensional artwork, a unique range of lighting, glass, wallpaper and fabric. Using a combination of digital imagery and original illustration over 100 designs have been created and printed on to paper and canvas. Numerous commissioned pieces have been undertaken, with clients requesting original botanical illustration or mural sized digital pieces for homes and workplaces. Pieces have been sent as far as Ireland, England, Canada, New York and New Zealand.
At the beginning of 2015 a creative partnership occurred between Zealous Objects and Winding Road Design Studio. This has provided an opportunity to satisfy our love of history, travel, design and the Australian landscape. As a result we have introduced a range of up-cycled wares for your lifestyle. The ZO moto - Design for the Human Spirit is a tribute to a growing design and environment savvy society, keen to find unique objects that have a story or interesting origin to impart. We are excited about this new venture and have had a great response to our growing range of three dimensional wares. We will add to the range continually so stay tuned for more large scale furniture items and beautifully made objects.
The studio conducts beginners and advanced drawing classes and from such interactions creative collaborations have emerged. Wineries, restaurants, retail, and community events have all contributed and supported the studio’s style and unique approach to ‘art and design for all.’
